Stressed Out This Holiday? Try This!

As I’m writing this blog post, this month has already started off busy for my family. If you didn’t already know, my husband and I lead a church in Chicago (he’s the Senior Pastor… find the church here: covenantfaithchicago.com).

And, because of that, holidays are busy (and sometimes stressful) for us because they are prime time for churches. We have several church events going on this upcoming month.

I can imagine you probably have your own commitments this month! You may be overwhelmed while you’re reading this. Well, read below for some tips to conquer the holiday season.

🎄Schedule time for yourself:

If holidays aren’t your thing, I encourage you to stay away from retail and department stores during this time. I know there have been instances in my life in which I was ready to knock out the sound system if I heard one more rendition of “All I Want for Christmas is You” (and I like Christmas LOL).

Schedule a self care day (as many as you want/can) to do something that relaxes you. Free ideas below:

  • Take PTO before it expires on Dec 31st

  • Watch your favorite movie

  • Sleep in

  • Take a warm bath/shower

  • Read a book (if you think you don’t like reading, you may need to pick a different genre)

  • Decorate your house (if it’s enjoyable)

  • Invite friends over (or visit them… chill vibes only)

  • Walk downtown (if you’re near a city)

  • Find a scenic place to walk/explore (click here to find a place near you)

Some others:

  • Go hunting / fishing

  • Go roller skating

  • Go ice skating

  • Schedule time at the salon / barbershop

  • Schedule a massage

  • Spend the day at the spa

  • Book a day in a hotel

  • Hire someone to clean your house for the month

  • Start looking for a babysitter

Try exercising for fun (this can be intimidating for some, so even trying once counts! 💯. Follow Imperfect Fitness if you’re looking for some help (they offer virtual services too).

🎄Make time for sleep:

Make time for sleep (sleep helps your overall health & can improve metabolism, your hormones, and mood).

  • Need help falling asleep? Try meditation (There are tons meditation videos on YouTube that are even sensitive to your religious beliefs. I like to find worship meditation on Youtube).

  • Try getting off social media at least 1 hr before bed (and emails too lol).

  • Try taking a warm shower or bath.

  • Or try any of the activities above.

🎄Make Quick Meals

  • Rotisserie chicken*, cucumbers, microwave sweet potato

  • Tacos with rotisserie chicken meat (or beans if vegetarian), frozen veggies

  • Loaded sweet potatoes with rotisserie chicken/ground meat of your choice/beans, veggies, sautéed onions/peppers, and whatever toppings you like (cheese, scallions, cilantro, salsa, hot sauce, etc.)

  • “Dinner bowl” with grain of choice (rice, quinoa, pasta), protein (beans, meat), frozen veggies, and any topping you like.

*If you’re concerned about sodium in rotisserie chicken, Whole Foods and Kroger have a no salt added rotisserie chicken. If you don’t have those near you, you can try boiling the meat in water before use (and discarding the water)

Starting in January 2023, we will be offering CUSTOMIZED group classes (for 5+ people) for those looking for accountability and health support.

Classes can be tailored toward healthy cooking tips, grocery shopping tips, diabetes, weight loss, and more. If you are interested in booking for your church, organization, or small group, email us at info@jillianq.co

Have a great week!

Jill
